One of the most interesting parts of life in Phuket is watching the large number of tourists who flock to the island in search of girls. There are, of course, lots of girls in Phuket, but outsiders often come with a distorted view of what it’s really like on the island. Most people seem fairly adept at using Facebook and MySpace. These resources are your friends for meeting people in Thailand.

There are dedicated networks for Phuket on both of these websites, so you can connect with people without having to do more than click your mouse a few times. Though you may not be keen on meeting people through the Internet, it’s really no big deal in Thailand and most people end up doing it at some point.

Another website, although this one won’t be to everyone’s liking, is ThailandFriends.com. This website is more like a dating site and it can at times feel a little overcrowded with foreign males searching for Thai pretties to try and seduce, but you can meet some decent folk through this website and there are regular get-togethers that you can also be a part of.

This week is Girlfriends Week, not just a day, a whole week… very special!

And we should truly enjoy it other than sending emails to our girlfriends to tell them how much we appreciate their friendship…..

There’s a new vacation trend known as “girls getaway” and rumor has it that it is a great way to get away from it all and go have the time of your life on a mini vacation with your best girlfriends, yeah!!

Girls getaway mini vacations have become so popular that many resorts, bed and breakfast inns as well as travel lodges are offering special deals for girls trying to get away for a few days. There are numerous resorts, cruise lines, ski lodges and guest ranches offering a variety of special deals.

I went searching on the net and found many different types of girls getaway packages. They list several places where girls that want to get away for a while can stay and play or relax, some include golf and some offer craft retreats which sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to bond.

The last girls getaway retreat I went on was in Pennsylvania in the woods with some childhood friends. I didn’t have to pay for lodging as we stayed at my best friend’s house and we all pitched in for food and drink. The quiet of the woods was very relaxing and peaceful and greener than Ireland, beautiful like a painting. Humming birds were buzzing around and the six cats and three dogs were the best entertainment I could ask for and free.

If you do not have girl friends living in places where you can get away and relax or you don’t wan to impose or you all want more entertainment than a few small furry friends eager to please, I highly suggest a girls getaway weekend any where you choose to go. Big Sky, Montana is definitely a favorite of mine as well as Yellowstone national Park, Colorado and any where in the rocky mountains, especially if you love the outdoors. Then again you might enjoy a weekend on the Chesapeake Bay or wine tasting or chocolate sampling or whatever your heart desires. The list is endless and so are the great deals you can get if you do a little research. There are many great ideas and places available for a girls getaway. Just pick something and go for it – especially this week since it is Girlfriends Week!

The other day I decided to see what dangers are lurking on the Internet dating scene. Online dating has never been as popular as it is today. But there are always predators who will take advantage of new ways to meet victims.

As Ted Bundy has taught us, serial killers can look like your average all American guy and still have raging demons inside themselves. We tend to forget that and that is why horror stories keep popping up such as these:

Earlier this year, a northern California man met a Brazilian woman, was smitten and proposed to her. He lavished money, gifts and even a car on the woman. Then he disappeared while meeting her in Brazil. Several months later, the police found his body and suspected that his fiancé with other two men drugged, robbed and murdered this lonely man.

Here is another story about the dangers of meeting people online: The police is looking for a man who is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman he met online while the couple was on a date in the city.

From that online news story, I saw the picture that the suspect used for his online profile. He looked ordinary and groomed. Not scary or creepy like a Hannibal Lector. Didn’t raise any red flags with me and obviously not with the victim.

And one more example would be the 26-year-old man who was arrested at an 18-year-old girl’s family house. Apparently he was staying there for a bit. But he was arrested for stealing a pickup truck and killing the elderly couple that owned it.

The police found him after the airing of a segment on the killings on the television show “America’s Most Wanted. A tipster recognized him from his online profile on a popular online dating service.

Meeting someone new in the real world should not be an invitation to be assaulted or even be a death sentence. So when you are chatting with someone online, keep in mind that you don’t know who you are really talking to. Even if the person you meet looks like their picture online, you STILL don’t know what that person is like until you know them better. So exercise careful judgment about what information you give that person.

I have to tell you if you are concerned about this topic; that there are online services that actually do a criminal check on prospects BEFORE they are allowed to become members. That still doesn’t mean you should lower your guard.

So, my advice is to ALWAYS be careful – especially when you meet the first time. Arrange to meet in a public place but that still doesn’t mean you won’t be a victim. You can do everything right and still be victimized. So be very careful of your surroundings and listen to your inner voice. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to break contact and get away from that person. Don’t worry about hurting anyone’s feelings; your safety is paramount here.

At the same time, I have to say that the vast majority of people you will meet online are decent and law-abiding folks. So many people swear the success of online dating and how they met their one true love. It is a concern that very BAD apples are online but temper that thought there are mostly good people who would love to meet someone like exactly like you for friendship, romance and… even marriage!

3) Repeat this process 10 times.
